Ensemble - Syllabus
A syllabus was created in 2005 for Verchovyna to implement continuity throughout the Ensemble. Each level flows onto the next giving the dancers a seamless development.
Dancers are taught a classical barre (warm up) to strengthen and loosen their muscles for the requirements of Ukrainian dance. As the dancers reach higher levels they alternate this classical barre with character barre work. The class proceeds with centre work (both Classical and Ukrainian Character) to work on co-ordination. Ukrainian Technique forms a large part of the class including dribushky (beat work), corner work, many turns, leaps and tricks. The last section of class is for Postanovka (learning choreographed dances of many different regions of Ukraine).
The degree of difficulty increases with each year of dance. We currently have 7 classes: Kinder, Beginners, Pre-Primary, Primary, Elementary, Intermediate and Senior.
The syllabus was developed by Melanie Moravska (Artistic Director), assisted by Olga Ahkmetova (current teacher), to encourage Verchovyna to grow technically and achieve excellence in its portrayal of Ukraine Culture through dance.
